Silver

Silver is a lustrous white precious metal that has been valued for thousands of years. It is widely used in jewellery, electronics and solar panels, and it is both an industrial commodity and an investment metal in its own right.

Silver Price UK

The silver price today is driven by the global spot market, and the silver price chart above is refreshed on this page every 5 seconds. Looking further back, our historic charts reach back to 1970 — long before live screens existed. The live per gram, per ounce and per kilogram figures all come from that same spot feed.

Why Buy Silver?

Silver offers a lower entry point into precious metals than gold, making it popular with first-time investors. The same metal that drives our silver price per ounce underpins every silver bar and silver coin we sell, so our product prices always track the live market.

Silver carries substantial industrial demand: solar panels, electronics, electric vehicles and medical applications all consume it. Because the metal is both an investment asset and a consumed commodity, its price has historically been more volatile than gold's.

Unlike investment gold, silver is normally subject to UK VAT at the standard rate. However, storing your silver in our VAT-free secure vaulted storage means no VAT is due while the silver stays in the vault, because it never enters free circulation. VAT becomes payable in the normal way if you later ask us to deliver it to you in the UK, so it is worth deciding how you plan to hold it before you buy.

Selling silver works the same way. Our scrap silver calculator values scrap silver by weight and purity, from 925 sterling jewellery and coins to fine bullion, using the live rates shown above. We also buy silver bars and silver coins directly, and the same live market data determines what we pay.
