The 2027 1oz Gold Britannia coin marks a major milestone: 40 years of the Gold Britannia. The coin continues to feature Philip Nathan's enduring Britannia design, recognised by investors and collectors around the world.
To commemorate this anniversary, the 2027 Gold Britannia introduces an exclusive ‘40’ wave privy mark, along with a finely detailed background texture that highlights the anniversary numeral.
The coin features Martin Jennings’ uncrowned effigy of King Charles III on the obverse, alongside Philip Nathan’s iconic Britannia design on the reverse.
Security features:
- • Surface animation: Picosecond laser wave patterns in the background create a rolling, moving effect when the coin is tilted under light.
- • Micro-text: Tiny, laser-inscribed text reading "DECUS ET TUTAMEN" (Latin for "an ornament and a safeguard") is positioned in a band around the design.
- • Tincture lines: Precise, fine lines on Britannia's shield provide the detailed representation of the Union Flag and add visual definition.
- • Latent image: A feature below Britannia's figure changes between a trident and a padlock depending on the viewing angle.
Struck in 999.9 fine gold with a face value of £100, the 1oz Gold Britannia is UK legal tender. Investment gold is VAT exempt in the UK, and UK legal-tender gold coins such as Britannia are generally exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK individuals.
