24 Carat/.999 gold is tested to 99.9% purity and is therefore accepted as pure gold. Twenty-four carat gold is quite soft and therefore not a common form of gold for use in everyday jewellery, usage being restricted to high-end Middle and Far East items. Twenty-four carat gold is also the purity used to mint the UK Britannia, the US Buffalo, and the Canadian Maple bullion coins.
